Freedom a la Cart
Freedom a la Cart employs and empowers human trafficking survivors. In need of a larger kitchen and safe space for workers to grow and heal, this local catering company turned to Red Architecture for assistance in establishing its new location.
Pinpointing the right locale required the survey and analysis of several potential spots. Once Freedom selected the new site, we used our knowledge of the restaurant industry to jump right in. Due to its multi-floor layout, we added small freight elevators to move products between the ground-level restaurant and catering kitchen in the basement.
The Downtown Commission was a key project partner. Like our team at Red, it recognized Freedom's valuable service to the community and not only helped find a great location, but they also assisted with special facade treatments, including brick details. We also partnered with a local artist to create a colorful mural on one side of the building.
Freedom a la Cart doesn't just feed the body; it feeds the soul. And so, the space is a healing retreat and training area. Freedom's workers use the space as a safe place to visit, work, access computers and other resources, and unwind.
